Presented by Theresa M. Varnet, M.S.W., J.D. Terrie has been an advocate for persons with disabilities for over 40 years. In addition to being a certified teacher, licensed social worker and graduate of the DePaul University College of Law, she is the parent of an adult daughter with a disability. Her experiences include work in the area of in-service training of families, special educators and other professionals. She specializes in probate and estate planning for people with disabilities. |

| An educational seminar sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association–Greater Illinois Chapter and the Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Aging with Developmental Disabilities: Lifespan Health and Function, Department of Disability and Human Development, University of Illinois at Chicago.
Alzheimer’s disease is growing problem among persons with developmental disabilities, particularly those with Down syndrome. Alzheimer’s disease must be considered a terminal condition that presents numerous challenges to provider organizations, families, and friends of those who are directly affected. This seminar will describe the ethical, legal and clinical challenges and offer insight into how to best meet these challenges. End-of-life decisions including the role of palliative and hospice care will be discussed by a panel of experts. This seminar will be helpful to managers and administrators in DD settings as well as staff of hospice organizations
