Illinois Life Span Program

Illinois Life Span is the statewide information and advocacy resource for people with developmental disabilities, their family members, and professionals. The Illinois Life Span Project was initially funded through a Call for Investment from the Illinois Council on Developmental Disabilities (ICDD). Below is a brief explanation of the original scope of the project and the ICDD intent.

Scope of Project & Council Intent

People with disabilities and their family members must have access to accurate and up-to-date general information and linkage to advocacy resources in order to meet their needs throughout their lives.

Illinois needs a strong, central location for people with disabilities and their families to get information and to locate the advocacy resources they need. The Illinois Life Span Project assures that people are directed to advocacy resources that are successful in helping them meet their needs.

Illinois Life Span Evolves

People who used our website and toll-free line also indicated a need to locate service providers and points of entry. As a result, the project was expanded to include disability service providers statewide. A sampling of the information available included the following offices/agencies:

  • Family Community Resource Centers (formerly Public Aid)
  • Illinois DHS-Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS) Offices
  • Independent Service Coordination Agencies (DD Services/PUNS)
  • Early Intervention Child & Family Connections Offices
  • Service Providers
  • Support Groups
  • Advocacy Organizations
  • Etc.

Current Illinois Life Span Website

Illinois Life Span, as it currently exists, provides essential service entry and advocacy resources by county and provides links to additional resources that are important to individuals with developmental disabilities, their families, and professionals. This new version of the Illinois Life Span website takes advantage of the information that is currently available on the internet and provides visitors to the site with a comprehensive and focused resource that is also simple to navigate.
