2010 Social Security Red Book - One of the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) highest priorities is to support the efforts of disabled beneficiaries who want to work by developing policies and services to help them reach their employment goal. The Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) programs include a number of employment support provisions commonly referred to as work incentives. The Red Book is a general reference tool designed to provide a working knowledge of these provisions. The Red Book is written primarily for educators, advocates, rehabilitation professionals, and counselors who serve persons with disabilities. We also expect that applicants and beneficiaries will use it as a self-help guide.

Child Advocacy Institute - Voices for America's Children - Voices for America's Children is the only entity in the country devoted to enhancing the effectiveness of state and local child advocacy organizations. That role is important. Although the needs of children are constantly changing as service gaps are addressed and others emerge, children will always need someone to speak out on their behalf, someone to be their advocate. Yet no one goes to college or professional school to be a child advocate. You can’t earn a Masters Degree in Child Advocacy. Information can be garnered from multiple sources on the issues affecting children and families, and degree programs exist to build skills in certain aspects of child advocacy. But, before Voices began to focus resources on building the child advocacy skills and knowledge of its membership, child advocacy expertise was gained only through on-the-job training.

ClickAndGo Wayfinding Maps - The premier source for indoor and outdoor narrative route maps for blind and deafblind travelers. - InTouch Graphics, a leading designer and producer of tactile/low vision maps for the Blind, introduces ClickAndGo Wayfinding Maps, a new and fully accessible narrative mapping service. It is modeled after the often-used "directions" feature of Google Maps, Yahoo Maps, and MapQuest. With those services, sighted users make their selections for a starting point and destination from a drop-down menu of landmarks, and then click "GO" for driving directions. We have taken this information model, compiled additional adaptations that meet the specific needs of the blind and deafblind, and are now able to provide non-sighted travelers with customized "mobility-friendly" walking directions.

FindFamily Registry - Online database will match families with their missing family member with a disability. For decades, parents of children with disabilities were advised by professionals to institutionalize their child and in effect "forget you ever had them." Of the more than 500,000 people in out-of-home residential settings, experts report that a high percentage have no regular contact with their family. States are gradually replacing their institutions with smaller, community-based residential settings that support family connections, but there has been no good way, until now, to actually help make that connection happen. As a result, most people in these settings have no families to help them make decisions, no one to call them on their birthday, no one to share holidays. Now, there is an opportunity for family members to reunite.

Making the Case for Coverage - Tips for Helping Children and Families Get the Benefits They Need from Their Health Plans - From New England SERVE and Massachusetts Consortium for Children with Special Health Care Needs. Health plans and clinicians have the common goal of getting children and families the health care services they need. This happens smoothly for most health plan members most of the time. A clinician orders diagnostic tests, for example, or prescribes medication or other treatment, and the health plan covers the cost. But sometimes, health plan coverage is anything but automatic. Some coverage requests
require a careful review by the health plan to determine whether coverage is appropriate.
