Requesting Special Education Services
Some students may
have disabilities evident only when they are confronted by academic challenges.
Parents or teachers may request a case-study evaluation, where the child is
tested for academic deficits. The case study evaluation is followed by a meeting
with the special education team and parents to discuss whether the student is
eligible for Special Education Services based on the results of the case study
evaluation. This is an opportunity to meet to discuss the results of
psychological testing, observations by teachers and other professionals as well
as the concerns of the parents and the student. The school staff should provide
you with a book to help you understand the special education rules and
procedures called,
