Lieke van Heumen is a Visiting Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Disability and Human Development at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). This presentation includes a brief introduction to aging of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and provides an overview of challenges experienced by this population to age well and supports that can be provided.

About our Presenter: Lieke van Heumen is a Visiting Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Disability and Human Development at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). Her research focuses on aging of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. She is a 2015 graduate of the PhD program in Disability Studies at UIC. She received both her undergraduate and master degrees in psychology with a specialization in gerontology from the Radboud University in the Netherlands. Lieke worked as a psychologist in five group homes for people with intellectual disabilities in the Netherlands.
