Human Rights Authority

Guardianship & Advocacy Commission is another agency that has a Human Rights Authority unit that responds to complaints of abuse or neglect against people with developmental disabilities. The Human Rights Authority exists to conduct investigations of complaints of violations of the rights of persons with disabilities. Based on early models of a singular regional grassroots program, the Human Rights Authority serves as a statewide framework providing direction and standards for a largely volunteer effort.

The Human Rights Authority is comprised of nine regional authorities throughout the State. If you need more information, please contact their toll-free intake number at 1-866-274-8023 (If outside the State of Illinois please, dial 1-708-338-7500).
